Hiking up to The Trinnacle in Saddleworth Moor
An easy walk around Dove Stone Reservoir with a more challenging hike up to Ashway Rocks, looping round the edge to The Trinnacle.
Why you’ll enjoy this hike:
If you're wanting more of a casual walk, taking the circular route around Dove Stone Reservoir is perfect. On our visit the water was so still it looked like a mirror and we were able to get some beautiful photos. For more impressive views make your way up towards Ashway Rocks. On a sunny day you can see quite far and get a really good viewpoint of the reservoir down below.
Points of interest:
Make sure to stop by The Trinnacle if you're able. You can get some fantastic photos but remember to be careful as it is a steep drop. The James Platt MP Memorial is also worth a look and not far off, refer to Google Maps for its location. We missed this on our walk as we got a little side tracked on the way back but would have been lovely to see.
When to go:
Do this hike in good weather so that you can get the most out of the views. I would avoid in damp and raining conditions as the pathways up the hill and over the top of the moor can get quite muddy and boggy. It was a bit of a slippy slope on the way back down.
What to pack:

Definitely pack your walking boots and hiking poles plus an extra pair of shoes and clothes if you get a bit sweaty and muddy on this walk. The poles will come in handy going up and down the steeper areas.
Final thoughts:
I loved the views from the top of the moor on this hike and The Trinnacle was definitely worth a look for some beautiful photos.
